Spring Break in Destin!
March
It is officially spring break in Destin Florida and one of our favorite times of the year! Spring break brings more than just beach goers trying to thaw out from their cold and snowy every day life up north, it’s brings the start of great fishing in our area.
When planning your spring break down to the emerald coast, there are a few things to keep in mind. While it’s regular to have days in the 70’s, we can also have mornings in the 40’s. We are still getting cold fronts here and they might not bring freezing temperatures and snow but they make for a cold day on the beach or ride out to the fishing grounds. There is nothing worse than packing bathing suits and shorts to vacation at the beach and three days of a cold front and rain put a damper on your trip. Pack some warm clothes!
Now that you gave a good jacket, hoodie, and pants, let’s go fishing!!! The daytime highs are averaging around 60°-70° and these warmer days will bring up the water temperatures! This may not mean much to you but to me it means fishing season is here! When the water temperatures reach around 68°, two things happen, the fish that have been here get happy and hungry, and the fish that are migrating through start to show up! Sheepshead is our favorite fish to target this month, the bite can be red hot and the fight is even better. Spanish mackerel will also start showing up which is one of our kid favorites, they are fast, shiny, and have mouth full of teeth! We have trips ranging from 2-8hours to include the entire family! Let’s go have some fun and make memories with your loved ones!
